Woyww -almost back to a routine

After a wonderfully relaxing holiday in Vietnam I am almost back in the woyww routine. This post is a little loaded with pics of my sketchbook journal pages from the holiday.  Promise to only show 4 pages of my sketchbook which hopefully will give you a glimpse of wonderful Vietnam.  Firstly, beautiful lotus flowers and leaves.  The country was so lush and green with beautiful gardens and trees everywhere.

Quick fun sketch of Ha Noi city streets in the old quarter.  I got the city sketch idea from a brochure but what I missed drawing is the electrical wires that would criss cross all over the page.

The landscape was full of paddy fields/terraces, lakes and mountains.

Wherever you went there would be a variety of animals but I was quite taken with poultry.  Normally I am the tourist patting the cats but this time I was taken with the chickens who knew not to cross the  busy roads if they wanted to live another day.

Taking a  sketchbook on holidays was new and definitely something I will do again.  A lovely way to stop and really make you look at the country you are visiting.

Have a lovely woyww.

  1. Hi Sandra,
Lovely, lovely sketches! They are getting better and better! Looks like you had a great time in Vietnam. Hope you had some relaxing though :) Will do a woyww post later. (I won some stamps from Norway!) Maybe we can fit in a lunch before the school holidays?

  3. Sandra, your sketches are incredible. So very beautiful and full of color. It must have been a fun holiday. Vietnam is one place I have trouble with. When I was in school (mostly middle and high school) the war was going strong and winding down. Still, I had friends whose older brothers were drafted and many died in those same paddy fields you drew so well. I remember when I was still in grad school, I joined a group of writers. We discussed war, and many of the women were much older than me and my friend I came with. They said the defining war HAD to be WWII. My friend and I said almost simultaneously, for our generation it was Vietnam! Sorry I got carried away, especially since this was the first I've been around for awhile. Happy WOYWW from # 2.

  10. Your photos are lovely. What an exciting trip. I'd love to visit there sometime. Our priest was born there and came to the US during that war. So having had an Asian daughter in law I kind of know the foods he enjoys too. We visited South Korea a few years back and I truly loved it there. Of course my son showed us a great time. but again I loved their food too. Just a beautiful well kept country. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the weekend. Our fall has been so beautiful, I hate to see it come to an end.

I love that you've drawn your memories, so very personal and so different from just taking photos, although I'm sure you've loads of those too.
