woyww- napkins as a distraction

Thank you to everyone who left great comments and personal thoughts on the topic of selling craft last week.  I learnt that most people generally give their craft away and very occasionally sell through word of mouth or local shops.   It doesn't appear that many or us are selling online and it certainly looks like if you do then prepare to market yourself via every social media site available.  Quite exhausting! and when would I find the time to do what I love.  This week my distraction is napkin art which is really decoupage using napkins.  I have a beautiful collection (thanks to RosA) and have been storing them waiting for inspiration.  Inspiration arrived in the form of special "napkin glue".  I had tried modge podge which some love but I was disappointed as it can be quite tacky in our climate.  So I have bought my special glue and will give it a go.   But I did do the exercise in continuous line drawing in SBS.   Got myself in a muddle with the pencil ending in the wrong position which captures my awkward hand eye co-ordination beautifully.  If you didn't notice I will point out that the loop in the bottom corner is pointing the wrong direction.
Have a lovely woyww.

  1. Actually your loop on the bottom facing the wrong way looks good that way kind of like the pencil wouldn't share that space plus little things like that only the artist notices. Didn't think anything of it till you pointed it out Happy WOYWW hugs Nikki #2

  4. Your napkins are so pretty. Have fun trying out the new glue. Oh, I would've thought the loopy loop was intentional. #7

  5. ah Sandra we all have that issue with hand eye co-ordination... re the napkin there are number of methods using plastic cling wrap to attach the napkin to the paper.. have used it with success no glue needed :
    here is one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZvssdWb_AY

  6. Oh I just love those napkins! You know - they make a beautiful picture and I can just see exactly what is on your desk being hung on the wall. Gorgeous!
    Love your drawing

  7. Try using a waterbased varnish instead of podge. I find podge is always sticky. On the selling of craft stuff. I make things to order. It is easier that way than making something you like and trying to sell it. #21

  8. Well, you're right, you do have some fabulous napkins, I'm interested to see where you use them! I didn't notice the back to front loop - too busy admiring the drawing!

  10. Hello Sandra. Thanks for already visiting. yes, our church folk are pretty brilliant! I'm with Julia - gorgeous napkins on your desk - and I would never have noticed the loop in the corner 'cos I was enjoying the rest of the picture. Only wish I could draw like that...
    Take care. God bless.

  16. Annie's right you just think it should go the other way, I think it makes it quirky and I love it LOL!
It helps with the composition as it attracts the eye even though you don't realise it the brain is telling you there is something different therefore leading the eye away from the focal point and around the rest of the design..... sorry I'm getting boring now, once a teacher, always a teacher, I just can't help it Lol!

  18. Very recently I was shown a technique with napkins ... You melt wax bees wax and brush it over a mdf shape then put the napkin on top and heat with a heat gun and it melts the wax and the napkin is firmly attached then when dry buff!
I plan to start looking for napkins maybe a napkin swap would be good !

  19. Great work! I read up on your comments from last week as I an considering the same as you. It is difficult getting your work out there. I think a lot of it is down to being in the right place at the right time.

  20. Hi Sandra,
    Congrats on No.1 !
No woyww, just sitting around fire after big day of skiing. Glad you are using the napkins! Plenty more where they came from :)
Love the watercolours, especially the pencil :)

  21. Beautiful napkins and that looks like a nice cuppa too. Your water colour is lovely and that you can draw one continuous line is amazing ... I certainly couldn't :( The pencil looks as though I could just pick it up and write with it - fabulous :) Have a great week. Elizabeth x #63

  22. Love your work and that loop isn't in the wrong direction, you deliberately put it there to hold the end of the pen. I have a saying in my house "There is a stuff up everyday, you just need to know where it is" Congrats on being no 1.

  23. Oh Sandra, what beautiful napkins, I always save really pretty ones and......
You have put yours to use eally well.
And your continuous line is hand drawn, not computer generated and it is special to you.

  24. Hi Sandra de,

I just left a somewhat lengthy comment on last weeks post. One thing I forgot is that Kelly Rae also mentions Flikr and Facebook for your art. To keep your personal FB page separate from your business FB page.

Your napkin art is beautiful. I think your loop d loops on your watercolor project are just fine -- it's handmade after all.

    Happy WOYWW

  27. Those napkins are beautiful, Sandra. I have an idea in my head for using napkins as a base for a canvas but as yet it is still in my head, must have a play now that the summer hols are here and we have 6 weeks off!!!!! It's fantastic weather here at the moment, hot, sunny and cloudless blue skies, perfect. I hope your winter has warmed up a little.
Love your watercolour, I wouldn't worry about your loops, i think if I attempted anything like this my loops would all be the wrong way round.
    Have a good week.
    Hugs Lisax

  32. I love the napkin art... I am saving them wherever I can, with an idea of doing something similar one day. Not much artistic activity from Shoshi this week - I was carted off to hospital with severe chest pains on Sun. a.m. - home again now, having had what they think was a coronary artery spasm - no arterial narrowing on the angiogram but evidence of some muscle damage. I'm feeling totally exhausted, not surprisingly, and hoping a few days' complete rest will see me right again! One advantage is that I'm getting to visit a lot more desks than usual!

    Happy belated WOYWW,
